Illamasqua Brink Lipstick

Oh dear, sweet Brink lipstick; why do you do this to us? On one hand you are the most beautifully alluring matte coral we have found, on another, you turn our lips into London's driest pout. For months we have prayed to find a happy medium for which you to flourish and sparkle, but yet no balm or exfoliant seems to be able to stand up to the job.

Just looking at your orange and pink hues make us want to smoother you all over our face. How can something so beautiful be so hard to understand?

Brink swatched

We had visions, Brink. Visions of us as a team recreating the graceful elegance of a 1950's prom queen. You know, all matte make up and nipped in dresses. It sounds good, hey?
Well, we can have that. We can still achieve that goal. If only you just let us into your gorgeous, enigma of a world - we really could become great friends.

Brink applied to lips (extreme close up)

We wonder if anyone else out there can help? Any useful tips or tricks? We're not giving up on you yet, Brinky Baby. Not until we've tried everything...

Illamasqua Lipstick in Brink can be purchased from counters internationally and asos.com for £15.

ugh frustration, it's such a lovely colour!
generally with these type of lipsticks, I like to apply them using my fingers to warm up the product. I dab (dabbing is key) the lipstick on gradually, until the desired intensity is reached.
Hope this works :)

Perhaps mixing it with Smith's Rosebud Salve?

this is the kind of colour I LOVE and adore but unfortunately it is matte as I don't do matte well at all. I tried out this colour at the counter and seriously just loved it.

Don't give up! Such a pretty colour. A lip primer perhaps?

I just stumbled on this post, and I was shouting (internally, of course!) - "Dab! You've gotta dab!" hehe So glad someone beat me to it! A gloss on top after dabbing really helps to set it, too.
